ROCKET LEAGUE
MINIMUM AGE: 3+
WHAT IS IT? Rocket League, developed by Psyonix, is a dynamic action-racing game that combines high-speed vehicular gameplay with soccer mechanics. Players control rocket-powered cars to score goals against opponents, offering a unique blend of racing and sports. As of February 2025, Rocket League has transitioned to a free-to-play model, broadening its accessibility to a global audience. WHAT WE SAY: Treat with caution. The Fun Stuff: Rocket League is a fun game that is best played with friends. You drive around in a car of your selection (all cars have the same stats, top speed, accelerating etc.), customize it to your liking (colour, hats, boost colour) and play soccer. Matches last up to 5 minutes, with a Sudden Death round if there is a tie at the end of regulations. Sudden Death is simply the team who shoots the next goal wins. Access to Inappropriate Content: Rocket League has content filters however like all user-generated games there may be unsuitable material. Parents should regularly review the games their child plays and enable parental controls. Direct Messaging Rocket League includes direct messaging through the friend system, where players can communicate privately. This system can sometimes expose players to unwanted contact, particularly in the form of harassment or inappropriate messages. Online Predators and Grooming Rocket League's popularity among children makes it a potential target for online predators. These individuals may use the platform’s chat features, private messaging, or even gameplay interactions to build trust and groom children. On Rocket League predators might pose as other kids, using avatars or language that appeal to younger users. Privacy Risks: Since Rocket League has an online multiplayer feature, players' personal data may be at risk, especially if not handled with proper care. Data such as usernames, email addresses, and in some cases, payment information, are involved in the game. Cyberbullying: Cyberbullying is a significant concern on Rocket League due to its interactive nature and social features. Players can communicate through chat, private messages, or voice (in certain games), which can sometimes lead to hurtful, threatening, or even illegal behaviour. |
