Qustodio

WHAT IS IT?
Qustodio is a strong parental control solution for parents who want robust monitoring
and flexibility across devices. While it does have some limitations, particularly on iOS
and for families on a budget, it remains a popular choice due to its extensive features
and customisation options.

Good Aspects of Qustodio

Comprehensive Monitoring Tools
Qustodio allows parents to monitor social media usage, web searches, app usage, and device location. The app offers a detailed activity log that can help parents understand how children are spending their time online.

Cross-Platform Compatibility
It is available on Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, and even Kindle, Qustodio allows families with multiple devices and operating systems to implement consistent monitoring.

Effective Web Filtering and Blocking
Qustodio offers customisable web filtering to block inappropriate content and restrict access to specific sites or categories. It includes preset filters that adjust based on the child’s age and allow for customised filtering by parents.

Screen Time Management
The app lets parents set time limits for device usage, both on a per-app basis and for the device as a whole. There’s also a “time-off” feature, allowing parents to designate certain hours (like bedtime) as off-limits for screen usage.

Location Tracking and Panic Button
For Android and iOS, Qustodio offers location tracking and a panic button that children can press to alert parents in emergencies. This feature adds a layer of security beyond screen monitoring.

Activity and Usage Reports
Qustodio provides parents with detailed reports on their child’s online activities, making it easier to assess habits over time and see if any adjustments to settings are necessary.

Not So Good Aspects of Qustodio

Limited Functionality on iOS
While Qustodio works on iOS, Apple’s restrictions mean that certain features (like monitoring calls and texts) are limited or unavailable compared to Android.

Expensive Premium Plans
Qustodio do offer a free version however it is quite limited. For full access to all of the features, users will need a premium subscription.

Battery Drain on Devices
Qustodio, especially when using location tracking and other real-time monitoring features, can cause noticeable battery drain on devices.

Inconsistent Performance with VPNs and Proxies
Some children have been able to bypass Qustodio’s restrictions using VPNs or proxy websites. While Qustodio works to prevent this, tech-savvy kids may still find loopholes.

Lag or Delays in Activity Reporting
Users have reported delays between their child’s activity and when it appears in Qustodio’s report. This can hinder real-time monitoring or instant adjustments to settings when necessary.
