WHAT IS IT?
Granny is a horror based game. Granny keeps players locked in her house and they need to try and escape. 

WHAT WE SAY:
Avoid.

• A horror game with grotesque art, blood, and jump scares that are probably too intense for children and young people!
• In addition to the graphic content, Granny also has some in-game mechanics that could be harmful to children. For example, the app contains a timer, which adds pressure and stress to the game
• Another potential danger of Granny is the potential exposure to inappropriate content. The app contains a chat feature that allows players to communicate with each other, and there is a risk that children could be exposed to inappropriate or harmful content.
  
•  The game allows players to share their scores and locations on social media, which could put them at risk of being targeted by predators.
  
• The app’s developer, DVloper, also collects personal data from its users, including their age, location, and IP address.

SAFETY TIPS TO CONSIDER:

• Violence and scary gameplay. Always encourage children and young people to talk to trusted adults if they see something on or offline that worries them!
• Players are also frequently subjected to ads during gameplay​.
• Make sure that children and young people always use their device in a room whereby adults are present.
• Discuss 'friends' - there is no such thing as an 'internet friend'. Encourage children and young people to only engage with other users whom adults know in the 'real-world', and that they know and trust.
• Use protection settings, such as time limitations, or only allow social media usage with parental guidance.
• Outline clear rules for your children. Pay attention to their development. As they get older, they should generally be given more freedom.
• Communication will also become more important as children get older. Explain that you are not trying to control them but want to agree upon a set of ground rules.
• Try to stay up-to-date on Internet trends and best practices.
• Talk to your children about the risks of disclosing personal data.
• Have open discussions with children and young people about the topics associated with online use - bullying, grooming, sexual and criminal exploitation, body image, as well as accessing support and how to report.
