MINIMUM AGE: 3+

WHAT IS IT?
Slither.io is a multiplayer online game where players control a snake and compete to grow the longest snake on the screen.

WHAT WE SAY:
Safe, but discuss safety tips with children.

Online Safety
In terms of safety for children, Slither.io is generally considered safe as long as certain precautions are taken. The app does not contain explicit or mature content, and there is no communication between players, so children are not exposed to inappropriate language or behaviour from other players.

In-game purchases:
Slither.io is a free-to-play game, but it offers in-game purchases that can enhance the player's experience. Children may be tempted to make purchases without their parents' knowledge, so parents should be aware of the in-app purchasing options and educate their children on the importance of not making unauthorised purchases.

Screen Addiction
Due to the nature of the game, it could lead to increased screen addiction, as players may become engrossed in the game’s immersive experience, spending extended periods of time in front of screens. This constant engagement can make it harder for individuals to disengage, disrupting daily routines, sleep patterns, and social interactions.

Parental Controls
Unfortunately, the Slither.io game doesn’t come with any built in parental controls.
SAFETY TIPS~:
  • There are ads in the free game. You can pay to have these removed. Therefore consider the risks of in-game purchases like removal of ads.
  • Open Settings > Screen Time > Tap Content and Privacy Restrictions and turn off in app purchases.
  • Make sure that children and young people always use their device in a room whereby adults are present.
  • Discuss 'friends' - there is no such thing as an 'internet friend'. Encourage children and young people to only engage with other users whom adults know in the 'real-world', and that they know and trust.

FURTHER SUPPORT:
For parents/ carers If you're worried about your child or need support call NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000.

If you see suspected child sexual abuse content online, report it to the police or the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), which helps remove illegal images from the internet.

If you’re worried about online sexual exploitation or abuse, you can make a report to Child Exploitation and Online Protection Command (CEOP) - a UK law enforcement team dedicated to protecting children and young people online.

For Children & young people if they're worried or want to talk, encourage them to contact Childline Online or call 0800 1111.
