AMONG US
|
MINIMUM AGE: 7+
WHAT IS IT? Among Us is an online multiplayer social deduction game where players work together to complete tasks on a spaceship or base. However, some players are secretly “Impostors” whose goal is to sabotage the mission and eliminate other players without being discovered. The remaining players, known as Crewmates, must work together to identify and vote out the Impostors while completing their tasks. WHAT WE SAY: Treat with caution. 🔞 Exposure to Inappropriate Content Although the game has cartoon-style graphics, it revolves around themes of deception, sabotage, and eliminating other players. In public games, players may encounter strong language, trolling, or inappropriate conversations through the chat system. 💬 Direct Messaging & Chat Among Us includes two chat systems:
📱 Cyberbullying Because the game involves accusing other players and voting them out, arguments can occur during discussions. Sometimes this can escalate into name-calling, blaming, or ganging up on players, which may upset younger children. 🚨 Online Predators & Grooming Among Us places players together in public lobbies with strangers. While the game does not include private direct messaging, players may share usernames or invite others to continue chatting on external platforms like Discord or social media. 📢 Account Safety & Age Verification Players create accounts through the developer InnerSloth, but age verification relies mainly on self-reported dates of birth. Younger users may enter false ages to unlock features like free chat. 💸 In-Game Purchases The game is free on mobile and low-cost on PC or console, but it offers cosmetic purchases such as skins, hats, pets, and bundles. These items do not affect gameplay but may encourage spending. 🎮 Game Modes & Match Types Players can choose different ways to play:
✅ Key 2026 clarification: “Local” play uses the same Wi-Fi network, not physical location tracking, so it does not match players nearby in the real world. |
🛡️SAFETY TIPS: 📲 Understand the Game Take time to learn how Among Us works, including its gameplay, chat options, and game modes. Understanding the platform will help you guide your child and recognise potential risks when they play online. 👨👧 Parental Supervision Check who your child is playing with and whether they are joining public or private games. Encourage younger players to play with friends or family in private matches rather than public lobbies with strangers. 🔒 Use Account & Parental Settings Among Us uses account systems and parental permissions through InnerSloth and Kids Web Services. Parents can verify their identity by entering an email during account setup and following the verification instructions sent to their inbox. Once verified, parents can:
💸 Limit In-Game Spending Among Us offers optional cosmetic purchases such as skins, hats, and pets. Set spending limits or require passwords for purchases to prevent accidental spending. 🚨 Download From Official Sources Only Make sure the game is downloaded from trusted platforms such as the App Store, Google Play, Steam, or console stores to avoid malware, scams, or fake versions of the game. 📢 Be Aware of Age Restrictions Among Us is generally rated PEGI 7, but there is no strict age verification when creating an account. Some users may misrepresent their age to access additional features such as Free Chat. 👥 Encourage Playing With Friends Suggest that your child plays private games using invite codes with friends or family instead of joining public matches with strangers. 🧠 Encourage Children to Trust Their Instincts Teach children that if a conversation or behaviour in a game makes them uncomfortable, they should leave the match, block the player, and tell a trusted adult. 🖥️ Keep Gaming in Shared Spaces Encourage children to play games in shared areas of the home, such as living rooms, where online activity can be more easily supervised. 💬 Keep Conversations Open Have regular discussions about online safety, bullying, scams, and interacting with strangers online. Let children know they can come to you if something concerning happens while gaming. 🚨 Know the Warning Signs Watch for behaviour changes such as secrecy, anxiety after gaming, mood swings, or sudden requests to play privately with unknown players, which may indicate a negative online experience.
