FIFA 2021

Picture
FIFA 2021
MINIMUM AGE: 3+

WHAT IS IT?
2021 instalment of the biggest football computer game in the world.

WHAT WE SAY:
Safe, but discuss safety tips with children.
  • Be mindful of purchases that can be made by the user by ensuring parental controls are installed on their device.
  • Families should also discuss the dangers of playing ‘online’ and being able to talk to strangers.
  • Be mindful that children and young people will see advertisement for gambling. This is shown on football shirts of players.
  • Children and young people are encouraged to gamble through 'Loot boxes'.
SAFETY TIPS TO CONSIDER:
  • Gamers who play online can talk with other people, potentially being exposed to inappropriate comments.
  • There are in-game purchases using real money ('Loot boxes').
  • Advertising is one of the biggest influences over children and young people gambling.
  • 'Whistle to Whistle' is a ban which means that no gambling adverts are shown prior to 9pm. However this does not apply to gaming.
  • Children's football shirts do not carry betting logo's unlike the adult shirts which do. Sometimes this leaves children upset that their shirts doe not resemble that of their favourite players. However in the game the players wear shirts with the betting sponsors.
  • Make sure that children and young people always use their device in a room whereby adults are present.
  • Discuss 'friends' - there is no such thing as an 'internet friend'. Encourage children and young people to only engage with other users whom adults know in the 'real-world', and that they know and trust.
  • Use protection settings, such as time limitations, or only allow social media usage with parental guidance.
  • Outline clear rules for your children. Pay attention to their development. As they get older, they should generally be given more freedom.
  • Communication will also become more important as children get older. Explain that you are not trying to control them but want to agree upon a set of ground rules.
  • Try to stay up-to-date on Internet trends and best practices.
  • Talk to your children about the risks of disclosing personal data.
  • Have open discussions with children and young people about the topics associated with online use - bullying, grooming, sexual and criminal exploitation, body image, as well as accessing support and how to report.
