MyLOL
MINIMUM AGE: 13+
WHAT IS IT? MyLOL is a social networking and dating platform designed for teenagers aged 13 to 19. It allows users to create profiles, upload photos, and connect with others through private messaging, chat rooms, and forums. The platform is marketed as a space for teens to meet new people and explore romantic interests. WHAT WE SAY: Avoid 🔞 Exposure to Inappropriate Content MyLOL is a teen dating and social networking site where users can chat and share photos. Despite moderation, users can still be exposed to explicit images, inappropriate conversations, and suggestive content — risky for younger teens. 🔐 Privacy Concerns MyLOL collects personal data including profile info and messages. There’s a risk of data being misused or shared. The platform lacks strong age verification, meaning adults can create accounts and potentially contact minors. 📢 Lack of Moderation Because users can be anonymous, it’s difficult to identify or hold those sharing harmful or inappropriate content accountable. 📱 Cyberbullying and Harassment The anonymous chat environment can lead to bullying, harassment, and uncomfortable interactions. Teens may find it hard to report offenders or feel powerless. 🧑💻 Online Predators & Grooming MyLOL has been linked to cases where predators pose as teens to target vulnerable users. The lack of robust age checks increases this risk. 🚨Safety Moderation MyLOL uses photo moderation, keyword detection, and chat room monitoring, plus tools to report and block users — but these measures are often insufficient to fully protect young people. 🆔Lack of Age Verification The platform does not have a reliable system to verify users' ages, making it possible for adults to create accounts and interact with children. |
🛡️SAFETY TIPS:
⚠️We do not recommend children and young people use this app! This app is no longer downloadable however it is still usable for those who have it! 📷 Cover the Webcam When Not in Use Physically cover your camera when you're not ready to go live. Always be mindful of what’s visible in your background—it can reveal location clues. 🧠 Trust Your Instincts If something feels uncomfortable, it is uncomfortable. Leave the chat immediately and don’t engage with users who seem suspicious, aggressive, or inappropriate. 🖥️ Place Devices in Shared Spaces Keep internet-connected devices in living rooms or kitchens, not bedrooms. This makes risky behavior less likely and easier to notice. 🙋♀️Conversations: Have open discussions with children and young people about the topics associated with online use - bullying, grooming, sexual and criminal exploitation, body image, as well as accessing support and how to report. 🚨 Know the Signs of Trouble Watch for behaviour changes—like anxiety, secrecy, mood swings, or suddenly deleting apps. These can signal something inappropriate happened online. FURTHER SUPPORT: For parents/ carers If you're worried about your child or need support call NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000.
