AMONG US

Picture
AMONG US
MINIMUM AGE: 7+

WHAT IS IT?
Play online or over WIFI with 4-15 players as you attempt to prep your spaceship for departure, but beware as one player will be an imposter and try to kill everyone!

WHAT WE SAY:
Treat with caution.

 Among Us - What's New

  • Users can join crewmates in a multiplayer game of teamwork and betrayal.
  • Crewmates can win by completing all tasks or discovering or voting the imposter off the ship.
  • The imposter can use sabotage to cause chaos, and avoid being caught for easier kills.
  • The game does contain mild violence.
  • Users join games by downloading the app. They then select either 'Local',  'Online' or 'Freeplay'.
  • local -  is where players can join games with people nearby, this is done using the players location. This is concerning as children and young people could potentially play with strangers.
  • Online - gives the option of 'Host', 'Public' or 'Private' .
  • Host - allows users to host a game themselves.
  • Public - allows users to join in games with random players. Again, the potential to play with strangers.
  • Private -  is where you join a game with known friends using a code.
  • There is also in-game chat, allowing users to write whatever they wish. Turn on the chat filter and do regular checks to ensure it remains turned on!
SAFETY TIPS TO CONSIDER:
  • Chat: There are a few different ways to communicate in Among Us, including chatting through an external program like Discord. As well as Twitch streaming integration.
  • Quickchat: Players can access is feature by going to the in-game chat menu, players will be greeted by a few different prompts related to various actions like accusing and responding. This  feature is designed to be an easier, faster, and safer option to play if you're using text chat.
  • Inappropriate gamer names: These usernames are visible to all players within a game.
  • Users are able to play with people nearby - talk to children and young people about the dangers of chatting to strangers nearby.
  • Make sure that children and young people always use their device in a room whereby adults are present.
  • Discuss 'friends' - there is no such thing as an 'internet friend'. Encourage children and young people to only engage with other users whom adults know in the 'real-world', and that they know and trust.
  • Use protection settings, such as time limitations, or only allow social media usage with parental guidance.
  • Outline clear rules for your children. Pay attention to their development. As they get older, they should generally be given more freedom.
  • Communication will also become more important as children get older. Explain that you are not trying to control them but want to agree upon a set of ground rules.
  • Try to stay up-to-date on Internet trends and best practices.
  • Talk to your children about the risks of disclosing personal data.
  • Have open discussions with children and young people about the topics associated with online use - bullying, grooming, sexual and criminal exploitation, body image, as well as accessing support and how to report.
